Pretty pictures with nice music, no story, no bullshit.
I decided to make this AMV 1080p even though some of my footage was still 720p with average quality. With some filters, the result is alright but I wish it would be easier in 2014 to find high quality footage.
2014-11-16 update: I finally got a display calibration colorimeter and realized that my settings were really off on the blacks and gamma. Watching Hidden Palace with a calibrated screen revealed how bad my filters were set and I decided to spend a few days fixing contrasts, levels and also some small details that were bugging me.
Not much popular anime here.
Twixtor was really useful to slow down scenes while keeping good framerate. Atelier Shallie Alchemists was already processed with a Twixtor-like plugin as you can see some artifacts if you look closely but I managed to slow it down even more. Space Pirate Captain Harlock was only used for special effects and overlays.

zircon feat. Jillian Aversa – Just Hold On (Padilion Remix)
zircon is very popular in the video game music remix community for his participation in OverClocked ReMix. He even worked on some game soundtracks like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Soulcalibur V.
The original version of Just Hold On is awesome, the version from Identity Sequence is even better but it didn’t fit the idea I had for this video. Padilion Remix was perfect.
😀
awesome, much different than the others, i enjoyed the chill style
yeah, getting 1080p footage is really a pain. And don’t think It’ll change much with the 4k. The problem really is more a bandwidth one. The only solution as of now is to find and rip your own bluray, which for an editor is kinda of a “nope” thing. Anyway, great vid, i really enjoyed it! Terrific job, as always ^^
The main problem here is that most of my footage isn’t available on bluray. I’m counting on Youtube’s new 4K compatibility to make people want to work with higher resolution.
I missed your AMV this JE. It was weird, even pointless without you. This is a magnificent spawn of yours. I’m amazed by how you switch yet again of style and managed to come up with something this geometric, relaxing and esoterical on the fractal scale. Keep up the everfolding gorgeous work.
Just love it 🙂
two words “AWESOME” where do you get inspiration for such works as impressive?
Bravo =)
By the way, can we have wallpaper version of the screenshots please?
Screenshots updated to 1920*804 jpg. You can also get the card here : https://www.nostro.fr/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/HiddenPalaceCard.png
This video are really cool! This Digital implements are really good and it is an other style of a AMV. adn the Track is really great, Like chilling-sound. But my question is: What are u think, you to call such videos to be? I would it call a DMV (Digital Music Video), because so much digital impliments are there. I hope you make more from such DMV, AMV and co. Really great PS: I hope you understands my English. Greetz Nivi
If you think it doesn’t contain enough anime for an AMV then I guess you can just call it Music Video. I don’t think it really matters though. Thx for your comment.
I have been a big fan of your creations for such a long time. This AMV is simply beautiful. Can’t get enough of it!
Hm. I didn’t really like the song. Stunning (especially 1:37-1:40), but because of the song it still comes off as underwhelming. Man, if the entire video and audio were the style of the vocal segments, it’d be one of the best things ever! Thinking about it rationally, that’d just rise an entirely different set of problems, but oh well. In other news, have you seen Rebellion? Studio Shaft went all out on this film.
I think I must have Rebellion somewhere but haven’t seen it yet. What do you think about the Identity Sequence version of the song ? (see soundcloud above).
Huh. I think I like the three mentioned versions the same. Also, it seems like the Padilion remix really grew on me for the past day. The AMV itself has plenty space to continue growing on me, too, while we are at it. We will see what I think of it in half an year. That’s about enough for my opinion to settle.
I quite interested in the song that was used. Just what kind of genre would you describe this song to be in. I’ve been trying to find trance music that sounds just like this but have ended empty handed. It seems that most of the trance music that I listen to just all sound the same.
i’d say it’s some kind of electro/chillout but might have an other name.
You could have taken part in the AMV contest of Connichi here in Germany if you missed Japan Expo’s deadline… Maybe next year? 😉
Maybe, if I have something new by then AND if someone reminds me.
Wouldn’t it be better to recommend LAV Filters rather than CCCP?
I never tried LAV. CCCP has been on my comp since 2007.
Actually the latest version of CCCP uses LAV Filter internally. So you are already using LAV Filter! I think CCCP switched from using FFDshow to LAV Filter in 2012 or 2013.
I am jot sure if you are aware of this, nor am I certain if you even interested in doing such a thing… YouTube determines the available quality and resolution settings based on the vertical resolution, so technically if you were to upscale the video from 1920×804 to 2576×1080, it would make the 1080p quality available while preserving the original 2.39 aspect ratio without burned-in letterboxing. However, the resulting video would subsequently be downscaled by YouTube to a 1920×804 resolution. Therefore, if you’re OCD about video quality, you could possibly minimize any quality reduction from the scaling by instead upscaling to exactly 200%, that is 3840×1608, which would then also allow YouTube to do an exact 50% downscale back to 1920×804. Heck, maybe even plain-old 200% nearest neighbor would work well for upscaling in this case since it’s going to be downscaled 50% anyway. (for reference, 1080p the maximum available quality for 60fps videos)
Holy crap I am a royal idiot. I thought you added letterboxing to the YouTube version but it turns out I’m completely wrong. Did you by chance happen to do the upscaling thing L mentioned, or has YouTube changed it that now they detect the horizontal resolution as well, this is a 1920×804 video would be detected as 1080p rather than 720p?
Didn’t think of any of this. I just uploaded a 500MB q14 h264 with the original resolution I edited with (1920×804) and Youtube did the rest. I downloaded the 1080p60 from http://www.clipconverter.cc and I get a 147MB 1920×804 mp4 file.
That’s why I said I am a royal idiot. 😛 So huh, that’s interesting – apparently YouTube now detects resolution based on the vertical OR the horizontal resolution. It was only a couple years ago that they only detected based on the vertical.
Yeah and now I know that the video keeps the original resolution and doesn’t force 16/9 by adding black bars.
After some time, my memory will remember you and i come back to your website one way or another.. it might have gone 2-3 years but i still remember you 🙂
